Episode 01 Stuff
Hey everyone! This is just a heads-up that I have finished most of the edits for Episode 01, and I like how it turned out. It was actually a combination of two separate takes that I did, each with a very different subject matter. I was worried that it might be challenging to make these two separate streams fit together coherently, but to my surprise, it actually worked out very well (with a bit of creative editing, of course).
I have heard from a few people that it feels like I keep promising something but not delivering. I understand how it might feel this way, but that is not the case. I promised on the blog that I would use it to show my viewers the process. Almost all podcasts you watch have likely done something similar; you just didn’t know it because they didn’t discuss it. In my case, I wanted to show you all the process.
It’s taking a while because I want to produce quality content. Quality content takes time and editing, and that’s what I am doing. I am amazed at how much I have learned about editing videos as I have worked on this. I thought I was getting quite good at iMovie when I worked on the videos for my children’s sports events, but I had no idea how much more there was to learn. I have learned almost double what I picked up over the past year but over a few months instead. I also have Final Cut Pro (I bought it on sale a few years ago), but as soon as I open it, my brain shuts down, and I return to iMovie. Maybe over time I will start learning more about Final Cut Pro, but iMovie does what I need it to do.
Cool Tech
On another note, I bought some cool tech that will eventually become part of my podcast. At the moment, I use a quality (1080p) webcam to record my video and my Yeti Blue microphone to record the audio. This works just fine for now, but I want something better as I try to expand the offerings (doing in-person interviews, for example).
Through a series of events, I decided to purchase a Sony ZV1 camera and a DJ1 RS3 Mini Gimbal. The gimbal is more for recording my children’s sports events, but the Sony ZV1 is more for the podcast. The camera can stream via Bluetooth to a computer or be physically plugged into it to serve as a webcam. I don’t know if I will use the new camera when I record Episode 02 or wait until a bit later. Before deciding to do that, I need to experiment with it more. This is the first of many items I want to purchase for the studio over time.
Here is an important question for you, my viewers. I do not need to purchase most of the items for the studio to complete the podcast; they are simply “nice to have” items. If I wanted to put a wish list out on Amazon, would any of you consider purchasing something as a gift? I follow some YouTubers who do something like that. I don’t want to sound needy, it would just make fitting out the studio faster. Let me know how you guys feel about that.
Thanks for your patience! I hope to have more updates soon!
