Hello friends, I want to share that I won’t be able to record any new podcasts until August. I know this is not ideal since I have only released my first three episodes. I have been trying to figure out a way to make this work but have not been able to figure out an easy way.
As mentioned in a previous post, my podcast studio is in a room next to my middle son’s bedroom and the walls are not that thick. With him and the rest of the children home for summer, the house is rarely (if ever) quiet during the day. Even on the days that I am in the house, I often find that the noise generated by my kids is so much that I have to often pause what I am doing, go deal with whatever tragedy is currently happening, and then resume where I left off with only 15-25% accuracy.
While there is the possibility of recording an episode at night, this presents its own problems. First of all, there are only a few places that I could record and those would be my home office (in a different area of the house than the studio) or my favorite arm chair in the living room. In both cases, I would have to use a fake background because neither of those places are visually appealing for a backdrop. Also, the amount of equipment I would need to move into my living room armchair to achieve the same quality would be rather extreme. This leaves my office as a more optional possibility, but it often is shared with my children throughout the day since that is where most of the computers in my house and the second gaming area are.
Although I would like to say that I plan on trying to record an episode or two in my office with a fake background, I can’t be sure that I will until August. That is when my children will return to school and the house will be quiet enough to record in my studio again. It’s unfortunate, but it makes the most sense. This also gives me time to look at scheduling a visitor or two that I want to bring in for some episodes.
My heart is still in the podcast, that I can assure you. But, my heart is also in doing a number of other activities. I have been working on several game ideas that bounce from one spot in my brain to the other. I have at least two games I am working on and a third that is more of a framework than an actual game (modernizing a MUD/MUCK). Feel free to check out my development site for information on that!
