I did not have as much free time as I would have liked this weekend to work on things because one of my children decided to break their arm in a pretty nasty fall at a playground. This meant that I was left much to my own devices to support the other children while my wife took the other one to the hospital.
But all is not lost! Over the weekend, I moved a few more pieces of equipment, including my guitars, into the studio space. They won’t be much use on the podcast, but they will be a nice decoration in the background. I researched (i.e., watched lots of YouTube) about what other professionals have done to improve their studios. Many of them mentioned using acoustic foam panels along many wall surfaces. One video showed the sound difference between having the panels and not. I was shocked because the sound I noticed when reviewing my first episode raw files was almost precisely that of the sound that lacks acoustic paneling. Sure, I can fix the audio in post-production, but adding panels in the future seems like a worthy use of some funds. Maybe I can start a Patreon?
Lastly, my current doctoral course is ending in a few weeks, and I will have a brief pause between the end of this class and the start of my next one. During this time, I could possibly clean up the first episode, get it ready, and perhaps even record another episode or two. Wouldn’t that be grand? I guess only time will tell.
